MOSCOW, July 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Argentine Ambassador in Moscow Pablo Tettamanti named Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Buenos Aires important.

“The Russian president’s decision to visit Argentina proves the development of strategic partnership. The visit can be named historical and very important,” Tettamanti told ITAR-TASS on Thursday.

Russia and Argentina signed a package of agreements, including a document on mutual legal assistance on criminal cases and on extradition. “These are juridical agreements that influence the people’s life,” he said.

A peaceful nuclear power deal, signed by Russia and Argentina, was the priority agreement. “It opens new ways for nuclear cooperation between the two countries,” Tettamanti said.

“We maintain successful cooperation in the energy sector. We praise Russia’s level in this sphere and hope for fruitful cooperation,” he said.

The positions between BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and Argentina coincide, Argentine Ambassador in Moscow Pablo Tettamanti said.

“This is more important than any discussions on Argentina’s intention to join BRICS. The positions also coincide at the G20 summits and within other international forums,” he said.

“Of course, Argentina will be pleased if its accession to BRICS is being considered. But I’d refrain from any comments,” Tettamanti said.

“It is very important that the BRICS summit in Fortaleza succeeded in creating such structures as a currency reserve pool and a development bank that can be an alternative to the World Bank and meet Argentina’s interests,” he said.
