“The sanctions will be imposed on those responsible for the military aggression against Ukraine and the occupation of Crimea,” an official says

KIEV, July 23./ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine’s commission on sanctions against Russian individuals and sectors of the economy will draw up and submit to the government the relevant bills in the space of a week, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers Ostap Semerak said on Wednesday.

Semerak told a briefing that “the sanctions will be imposed on those responsible for the military aggression against Ukraine and the occupation of Crimea.”

Earlier on Wednesday, parliament-appointed Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that “Ukraine has taken a decision to introduce sanctions against Russian officials and companies” for their support of militias (of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk in Ukraine’s east).

Russia’s lower house of parliament, the State Duma, laughs off Ukraine’s intentions to blacklist Russian individuals and companies, said Leonid Slutsky, the chairman of Duma’s committee for the CIS affairs, European integration and ties with compatriots.

“Ukraine’s sanctions are complete rubbish as they (Ukrainians) will punish themselves from the economic point of view,” he said pointing out that Ukraine’s external debt to Russia was enormous, to say nothing about problems emerging from their rejection of bilateral co-operation and support from Russia.

“Speaking about possible visa restrictions, I would say that it is not safe to visit war-torn Ukraine,” the Russian lawmaker said.

“All this is madness but we could expect anything from the Ukrainian junta that burns people alive,” he said.
