UK and Sweden may seek embargo on military supplies to Russia
The foreign ministers of both countries have stated this on Tuesday
BRUSSELS, July 22. /Denis Dubrovin, Alexander Shishlo for ITAR-TASS/. The UK will seek an embargo on military supplies to Russia. British Secretary for Foreign Affairs Philip Hammond has stated this on Tuesday.
“The world has changed since the European Council last week (when the Malaysian Boeing crashed. — ITAR-TASS),” he said. “We have to send a clear signal (to Russia) from our meeting today that we recognize that and that we are going to go further as a consequence of what has happened.” When asked about the possibility of an arms embargo, Philip Hammond replied: “It’s one of the things we have to look at.”
Sweden’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt has made a similar statement.
“I think we should have had an arms embargo quite some time ago,” he replied to a similar question from a journalist at the arrivals of European foreign ministers to their meeting. The main topic of the current Foreign Affairs Council is the situation in Ukraine.
The Mistral deal with France may be also affected by this embargo, if it is imposed.
