NEW YORK, July 21. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko denied the Russian Defense Ministry’s statement that a Ukrainian plane was allegedly flying along with the Malaysian Boeing-777 passenger jetliner that crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17.

“That’s not true. We are open to any inspection. When the Russian (Defense) Ministry makes such a statement, it must provide proof. The sky over Ukraine is monitored by many satellites and air defense systems. Everyone knows that all Ukrainian planes were on the ground several kilometres away (from the crash site) at the time of the accident,” Poroshenko told CNN on Monday.

He invited Russia to take part in the investigation of the accident and provide the proof.

The Russian Defense Ministry on Monday published some of the data gathered as part of the probe into the July 17 Malaysian Boeing crash.

Russian air data records indicate that a Ukrainian Su-25 jet fighter might have been flying towards the Boeing on that day, Lieutenant-General Andrei Kartapolov, head of the Main Operations Department of the Russian Army General Staff, said.

“Records show that the Ukrainian Air Force plane ascended to within 3-5 km from the Malaysian Boeing,” he said. “The Su-25 can fly at altitudes of up to 10 km. It is armed with P-60 air-to-air missiles that can hit targets at a distance of up to 12 km and reliably within 5 km.”

“This is borne out by the video footage obtained by the Rostov monitoring centre. We would like to know why the Ukrainian plane was flying along a civilian route on the same flight path as the Malaysian Boeing,” Kartapolov said.

He also said, “We have satellite images of certain Ukrainian army air defence systems in the south-east of the country.”

Russian monitoring systems recorded up to 4 Ukrainian Buk M1 air defence systems in the crash area on the day of the accident. The point where the plane was at the time of the accident was within the Buk system’s coverage sector.

On the following day after the accident, the intensity of Ukrainian air defense system radar stations increased dramatically, the Defense Ministry said.

It denied Kiev’s assertions that there were no other flights in the crash area on the day of the accident and said that an aerial object had been flying over the crash site for four minutes to monitor the situation.

Also, the time of the Boeing crash coincides with the time when a US satellite was monitoring the territory of Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry said an American pilot craft intended for registering missile launches was flying across Ukraine at that time.

A high-ranking Defense Ministry official also said that videos allegedly showing the transportation of a Buk air defense system from Ukraine to Russia were a result of manipulation.

“This is clear manipulation. The images were taken in the city of Krasnoarmeisk, which is borne out by the roadside billboard giving the address of a car dealer in the city,” Kartapolov said.

“Krasnoarmeisk has been under the Ukrainian army’s control since May 11,” he added.

Poroshenko, however, said Kiev had “evidence which answers when, where and how the Malaysian Boeing accident happened”.

Ukraine’s security services are ready to share this information with the international commission of experts investigating the accident, he added.

The plane en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region on July 17. All of the 298 people aboard died.
