Yatsenyuk: Ukraine ready to give the Netherlands coordinating role in crash investigation
According to the latest figures provided by the Ukrainian State Service for Emergency Situations, 272 bodies have been found, the Ukrainian PM said
KIEV, July 21. /ITAR-TASS/. A total of 272 bodies have been found at the crash site of Malaysian passenger plane in eastern Ukraine, parliament-appointed Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said on Monday.
“According to the latest figures provided by the Ukrainian State Service for Emergency Situations, 272 bodies have been found, of which 251 bodies are in refrigerators at the Torez station,” the prime minister said.
Ukraine is ready to give the Netherlands “a coordinating role” in the investigation of the plane’s crash, Yatsenyuk noted.
“Our stance remains unchanged — a transparent and comprehensive international investigation [is needed]. Ukraine is ready to give a coordinating role in investigating this horrible tragedy to our western partners, the Netherlands,” the Ukrainian parliament-appointed prime minister said.
Yatsenyuk added that the Netherlands as the most affected party “can lead this process in clear coordination with Ukrainian institutions and the global community”. The prime minister also said that Kiev is ready to assist in transportation of the victims’ bodies to Amsterdam, where a proper forensic probe will be carried out.
Malaysia Airlines’ Boeing-777 airliner en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in the area of combat actions between local militias and Ukrainian governmental troops in east Ukraine’s Donetsk region on Thursday, July 17. All 298 people aboard the plane died in the air crash.
The Ukrainian State Service for Emergency Situations said the search area was 120 square kilometers. “As many as 810 people, including 335 emergency staff and 35 units of machinery are involved in the search-and-rescue operation in the air disaster area and for special works in Kiev,” the service’s press office said.
