Election in Belarus will be held in 2015

MINSK, July 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Presidential election in Belarus in 2015 will boost pressure on the country but violent actions are unlikely, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting with the country’s high-ranking diplomats on Thursday.

“The so-called ‘soft power’ will be used to the maximum along the entire perimeter of our borders,” the presidential press service quoted Lukashenko as saying. “Nobody will come to us on tanks but the pressure will increase many-fold.”

“A presidential election is an exceptionally important political event for any country,” the Belarusian president said. “Responsibility of the momentum lies first and foremost on the choice of a future course and on key priorities of the country’s development in the long run. So the Western actions and reaction are predictable on many points.”

Along with this, Lukashenko underscored that Minsk carried out “election campaigns in strict accordance with the national legislation for itself rather than for Washington, Brussels or even Moscow.”

At a time of increasing pressure on the country “allegations on the state’s disloyalty to various minorities are usually added to the traditional critique of alleged human rights violations and an open pressure on the society’s moral values,” he said.

“Traditional values , in particular family-oriented ones, are turned upside down,” he said. “Our movement towards Eurasian integration remains inadmissible for some (of the opponents).”

Lukashenko said that “our citizens watching with deep sorrow the events in Ukraine realise true value of Belarus’s sovereignty and independence.”

“The people regard from a different point of view of stability and tranquillity in our country which sometimes they believe is a matter of course,” he said. “We must build the state we have now and it is a difficult task. Moreover, not everyone outside the country has realised that a sovereign Belarus is forever and ever.
