“Moldova should remain a ‘bridge’ between the West and the East,” Anne Brasseur says

CHISINAU, July 17. /ITAR-TASS/. The PACE President has emphasised the need for Moldova to preserve good-neighbourly relations with Russia.

“Moldova should remain a ‘bridge’ between the West and the East,” the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Anne Brasseur, said on Thursday.

“It is easier not to close the door than to open it again,” Brasseur said in her comment on the signing of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union.

She noted the Moldovan government’s progress in carrying the reform.

However, Brasseur said they were insufficient to join the EU.

“Despite the fact that Moldova was the first CIS country that joined the Council of Europe, the Assembly continues monitoring the republic,” Brasseur said.

“Moldova should fulfil certain conditions for entering the EU. The republic has much to do,” she said.
