LONDON, July 16. /ITAR-TASS/. British Prime Minister David Cameron will be recommending further targeted sanctions against Russia at the EU summit in response on Moscow’s stance over the Ukrainian crisis. Cameron’s spokesman said this at a regular briefing for journalists in London on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Press Association news agency reported with reference to Downing Street that Cameron would use the meeting in Brussels “to argue for the extension of targeted sanctions and the continued discussion of potential wider economic measures”.

“The EU has been working now for some time on a list of further possible measures. The Prime Minister is pretty clear that there is a good case for going further in terms of targeted sanctions,” the prime minister’s spokesman said at the briefing.

He added that the UK expects a “real and substantive discussion” on further measures from the Brussels EU summit.

“"The British Government will be arguing the case that the current conditions now justify further sanctions. That is a point we will be making this evening and we will see if we reach agreement on that,” Cameron’s representative emphasized.

Meanwhile, UK’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told ITAR-TASS that the new Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond would not be present at the opening EU summit. The diplomatic service specified that the decisions on whether the head of the ministry would accompany the British leader at the summit were made separately in each specific case.
