VIENNA, July 10. /ITAR-TASS/. Uranium, seized by Iraqi militants, does not pose any serious threat,  IAEA Spokesperson Gill Tudor said on Thursday.

"The IAEA is aware of the notification from Iraq and is in contact to seek further details. On the basis of the initial information we believe the material involved is low-grade and would not present a significant safety, security or nuclear proliferation risk. Nevertheless, any loss of regulatory control over nuclear and other radioactive materials is a cause for concern," she said.

Iraqi authorities informed UN Secretary General  Ban Ki-moon on uranium abduction on July 10. 40 kilograms of uranium compounds were kept in scientific laboratory of Mosul University.
