KUWAIT CITY, July 09. /ITAR-TASS/. Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Staffan de Mistura has been appointed as the new UN representative for Syria, the Al Arabiya TV channel said on Wednesday, July 9.

De Mistura has worked in different positions in the United Nations for 40 years and served as the UN Secretary-General’s representative in Iraq and Afghanistan. His last position was deputy foreign minister of Italy when the government was headed by technocrat Mario Monti.
