Lithuanian government takes decision to fire all deputy ministers

Dalia Grybauskaite who was elected for a second term of office claimed she had information from the intelligence services suggesting that some of the deputy ministers were enmeshed in corrupt schemes

VILNIUS, July 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Political council that includes representatives of all the parties making up the majority coalition has taken a decision to fire all deputy ministers, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius told reporters Friday.

“After the government returns its (administrative) powers to the President and a new composition of the cabinet is endorsed, all the deputy ministers will be fired,” he said.

Right after that, the ministers will form their teams anew and they place their form deputies there.

According to Lithuania’s Constitution, the government returns its powers to the President after his or her inauguration.

Dalia Grybauskaite who was elected for a second term of office in May claimed she had information from the intelligence services suggesting that some of the deputy ministers were enmeshed in corrupt schemes.

The blacklist of corrupt officials is confidential but mass media reports claimed that it contained nine names.
