TALLINN, July 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Estonia’s President Toomas Hendrik Ilves finds a ban on the transmissions of Russian TV channels in this Baltic country to be an unacceptable step, the presidential press service said Friday citing an interview that Ilves gave to the Latvian daily.

“Information should flow freely,” he said adding that he opposed most seriously any blocking of information.

“That’s not the way to act, as it won’t bring about anything good,” Ilves said.

Proposals to suspend the Russian TV channels, which were allegedly distorting the picture of events in Ukraine came from a number of radical rightwing politicians in the Baltic republic.

Earlier in the day, the Coordination Radio and TV Broadcasting Council of Moldova suspended the programs of Rossiya 24 channel’s programs until January 1, 2015, due to the “inconsistency of its programming with the provisions of Moldova’s Broadcasting Code.

At present, the broadcasting of four Russian channels - First, RTR-Planeta, Rossiya-24, and NTV-Mir is suspended in Ukraine.
