ASTANA, July 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Kazakhstan’s top military official has said the Council of CIS Defense Ministers will allow successfully developing military partnership between the CIS countries.

“I want to stress that the CIS format (Council of Defense Ministers) provides the foundation for military cooperation. Within this format there is a chance to develop partnership,” Kazakhstan’s Defense Minister Serik Akhmetov said on Friday.

The format makes it possible to meet the interests of any country while forming the Commonwealth development strategy. “Our cooperation facilitates the strengthening of mutual trust and security,” he said.

“Each state is based on its own national priorities and determines its participation in any formats of multilateral military cooperation. This principle is the fundamental of partnership,” Akhmetov said.

The ministers discussed about 20 issues. Russia is represented by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

The ministers discussed documents on the status of engineer servicemen within humanitarian mine actions, on the control and assessment system for radiation, chemical and biological safety, on the use of military satellite communication systems and on flight safety in the CIS Armed Forces.

“The ministers also discussed priority research in air defense, military education, personnel and financial support,” the Kazakhstani Defense Ministry’s press service says.
