MOSCOW, July 03. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Channel One journalists have come under fire in Sloviansk, south-eastern Ukraine, on Thursday, July 3.

The hotel in Sloviansk where they were staying was bombed when the TV crew was filming a report, the channel said.

They are safe and sound now, the channel’s spokesperson Larisa Krymova told ITAR-TASS. “We have just received new information: everything is well with the journalists. They are unhurt and have left Sloviansk,” she said.

Krymova confirmed that “it was not a targeted attack on the journalists but on the hotel”. The journalists said they had survived by mere luck.

On the night from June 29 to June 30 Channel One personnel came under fire on the outskirts of Donetsk and cameraman Anatoly Klyan received a fatal stomach wound near one of the military units where the TV crew came to film a news report for the Russian channel. The trip had been organised by the press service of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic. The journalists were travelling in a bus together with the mothers of active duty soldiers who wanted their sons to go home. Suddenly, shots were fired. Klyan received a fatal stomach wound. Later Ukrainian medics registered two gunshot wounds.

On June 17, two Russian journalists - Igor Kornelyuk and soundman Anton Voloshin of the VGTRK television company were killed in eastern Ukraine.
