Saudi Arabia deploys 30,000 soldiers to its border with Iraq
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the kingdom said the situation in Iraq threatens to grow into a full-scale civil war with unpredictable consequences for the whole region
KUWAIT CITY, July 03. /ITAR-TASS/. Saudi Arabia has deployed 30,000 soldiers to the border with Iraq, Saudi television reported on Thursday.
On June 26, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia took all necessary measures to protect the kingdom from potential terrorist threat. The monarch made this decision after the session of the National Security Council devoted to discussing the situation in neighboring Iraq. Radical Islamists from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) organization have seized several provinces in Iraq and continue terrorizing the local population. On June 30, ISIS militants announced they are establishing a caliphate on the controlled territories in Iraq and Syria.
Earlier, Baghdad accused Riyadh of providing terrorists with financial support. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia denied the accusations and spoke out against foreign interference into the internal affairs of Iraq.
