“We will support the country in countering terrorism,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian

MOSCOW, July 01. /ITAR-TASS/. Iran and Russia will “support Syria’s authorities and opposition in their efforts to seek political resolution of the Syrian crisis”, said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

The Iranian diplomat, who has arrived in Moscow on a visit , said on Tuesday he had held consultations with Russian President’s Special Representative for the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

“We had a useful and meaningful discussion,” Abdollahian said. “Special attention was paid to developments in Syria and Iraq.”

“Tehran and Moscow have similar views on Iraq. We will support the country in countering terrorism,” he said, adding that “over the past three weeks the United States refrained from any serious actions aimed to combat terrorism in Iraq”.

“The Americans are unable to respond quickly to developments in the region,” Abdollahian said, noting that it was important now for Iran and Russia to pay particular attention to security issues in the Middle East.
