Georgian PM pledges his country will continue policy of normalizing relations with Russia

TBILISI, June 27. /ITAR-TASS/. Georgia’s authorities will continues their policy towards normalizing relations with Russia, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Friday.

“Such policy has already yielded certain results and constructive steps from Russia that followed in response,” he said in an interview with the Public Television channel.

“The result of our steps is today’s signing in Brussels of the association agreement between Georgia and the European Union,” he said, adding that Moscow had kept its promise not to “meddle with the process of signing of the association agreement between Georgia and the European Union.”

“Tbilisi hails the policy of the Russian authorities,” Garibashvili stressed. “Of course, we [the Georgian government] hold on to our principles position concerning the restoration of the country’s territorial integrity, but it does not mean we cannot improve and invigorate trade-and-economic relations with Russia, relations between people and promote the process of re-building trust.”
