President Poroshenko proclaims Ukrainian as only state language
The Ukrainian president added that the draft bill on amendments to the Constitution would be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday
KIEV, June 25. /ITAR-TASS/. The Ukranian language remains the only state language of Ukraine, President Petro Poroshenko has declared on Wednesday.
“The Ukrainian language was, is, and will be the only state, constitutional language of Ukraine,” Poroshenko declared at a conference with representatives of local governments.
Nonetheless, Poroshenko said that local communities "will have the full right to use other languages, including Russian, alongside with the Ukrainian language”.
The Ukrainian president added that the draft bill on amendments to the Constitution would be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday, June 26. “Tomorrow, the draft of the new Constitution will be already submitted to the parliament and sent to the Venice Commission for assessment,” Poroshenko stated.
