“It is time for us to stop taking about partnership with Ukraine until Ukraine itself demonstrates readiness for such partnership,” a Russian lawmaker

MOSCOW, June 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia should introduce personal sanctions against Ukrainian leaders, said State Duma lower house Foreign Affairs committee chief Aleksei Pushkov.

Ukraine’s authorities were deliberately stirring up a conflict “to serve US President Barak Obama’s administration”, Pushkov told deputies on Tuesday.

“We should reassess our policy towards Ukraine,” he said. “Our political line that sanctions are something unacceptable in international affairs does not seem to be understood in the Western world, where sanctions have turned into a regular instrument of diplomacy and foreign policy.”

“We should think out a system of sanctions against Ukraine, including personal sanctions against Ukraine’s leadership,” Pushkov said.

“In an environment where sanctions are being used by a large number of international players from leading countries of the modern world, Russia narrows its foreign policy potential rejecting this instrument.”

“It is time for us to stop taking about partnership with Ukraine until Ukraine itself demonstrates readiness for such partnership,” he added.
