Bus with Russian tourists falls into river in India, 13 dead

NEW DELHI, June 10./ITAR-TASS/. A bus carrying Russian tourists fell into the Bhagirathi River in northern India, killing 13 people, the electronic version of the India Today journal reported.

The Russian Embassy in India has not confirmed the information yet. "We are checking the information," a consulate source told ITAR-TASS.

 

Indian police confirmed the death of two Russians 

Uttarakhand police reported about two people dead and 11 people injured in an accident. One person missed, the police representative added. The victims were taken to a hospital by helicopter.

According to the police, the bus fell into the river at 13:20 local time (15:50 GMT). All the details of the incident are still unknown. 

 

The Association of tour operators cannot confirm casualties

"We cannot confirm that Russian tourists were in the bus. The only thing we know is that there were 42 passenger seats in the bus, but there were more passengers than seats," the executive director of the Association of tour operators (ATOR) Maya Lomidze said.

She noted the place where the accident occurred was not tourist. According to the representative of ATOR, pilgrims were allegedly in the bus.
