Putin, Merkel devote their whole conversation to Ukraine

This is the first meeting between two leaders since the Ukraine crisis

DEAUVILLE, June 06. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Germany’s Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel devoted their whole conversation, which lasted about sixty minutes, to the situation in Ukraine, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said Friday.

“Putin and Merkel fully concentrated their attention on the Ukrainian affairs and on a search for ways to settle the crisis,” said Peskov who attended the conversation.

When a reporter asked him if the two leaders had discussed the differences of approaches existing between Moscow and Berlin, Peskov said: “That’s precisely what their conversation was devoted to.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Normanday, France, within the D-Day celebrations.

The meeting was held behind closed doors.

In the last months Putin and Merkel talked by telephone several times. However, this is their first meeting since the Ukraine crisis.

Putin arrived in France on Thursday, June 5. He held talks with British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Francois Hollande.
