Russian lawmaker sent an open letter to the PACE speaker, asking to hold urgent consultations on Ukraine

STRASBOURG, June 03. /ITAR-TASS/. Speaker of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Anne Brasseur intends to continue a dialogue with Russia on settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, a well informed source close to the PACE speaker said on Tuesday.

Earlier, Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin had sent an open letter to the PACE speaker, asking to hold urgent consultations on Ukrainian settlement with the participation of the Russian Federation.

The PACE speaker has talked to Naryshkin on the telephone this week, but giving an open reply to the letter sent by the head of the Russian State Duma has not been discussed yet , the source said.

In an open letter dated May 28 Naryshkin stressed that urgent interparliamentary consultations were necessary in which Russia should take part. Despite the previous mistakes there is a chance to restore civic peace in Ukraine, and that chance shall not be lost. But there will be no such chance without Russia's participation, Naryshkin warned.

In the letter Naryshkin also expressed hope that the powers of the Russian delegation to PACE would be restored in full. " If such a decision is made I am prepared to attend a PACE session in person and make a speech", the Duma speaker said in the letter.
