BRUSSELS, June 02. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s ambassador to NATO has said Moscow called on the Alliance not to heighten the situation due to the crisis in Ukraine.

“We expressed hope that ahead of the defense ministers meeting scheduled for June 3-4 NATO will not take a decision that would worsen the situation,” Alexander Grushko told ITAR-TASS on Monday.

“We hope that the Alliance with comply with the obligations under the Russia-NATO Founding Act,” he said after an extraordinary session of the Russia-NATO Council.

The Russia-NATO Council gathered for Russia’s request.

Grushko also said NATO should refrain from deploying additional armed forces in Europe on a permanent basis.

He described the Alliance’s statement saying Russia “was building up forces on the Ukrainian border as “vicious”.

“We demonstrated that no build-up had taken place,” Grushko said.
