MOSCOW, June 02./ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s top diplomat has said the West heightens tension around Syria and creates consequences for external interference.

“In general, humanitarian agencies give an objective assessment to the humanitarian situation in Syria. There are certain problems related to humanitarian aid deliveries in the areas, controlled by militants, who are often not subordinated to anyone but supported by several foreign states,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday.

“We are always ready to discuss humanitarian issues, particularly humanitarian deliveries to the population,” he said.

Russia “supports the UN Security Council previous resolutions and it is ready to discuss additional steps. Much should be done not to politicise these issue and not use them for whipping up tensions and instigating the public to uphold foreign interference into the Syrian crisis”, Lavrov said.

“It is necessary to comply with the norms of international humanitarian law that envisions cooperation with the host country,” he said.

Russia “is regularly reporting about its aid to solving humanitarian problems in Syria, particularly concrete data on supplies of foodstuffs and essentials”, he said.

“We are reporting about our mediation efforts jointly with the authorities in Damascus. We promote and laud local reconciliations that helped people, who had been under long siege in Homs,” Lavrov said.

“Our Western partners said nothing. They pay attention to putting pressure on the regime in Syria, using new sanctions and provoking tensions. They are seeking to create conditions for external forces to interfere into the conflict,” he said.
