Leader of the UDAR (Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform) Party Vitali Klitschko, who ran for mayor of Kiev, has scored 56.52% of votes after 67% of the ballots (from 729 polling stations out of 1,082) have been counted. The nearest rival of Klitschko is Verkhovna Rada member Lesya Orobets with 8.52% of votes.
Prior to becoming a politician, Vitali Klitschko had an extremely successful career in sports. He started as a professional boxer in 1996. Since then, he has won titles of the European champion, WBO and WBA world champion. In 2006 Klitschko started his political career.
