On May 29 people of the world honour the memory of the peacekeepers who have lost their lives, and pay tribute to men and women serving or having served in the United Nations peacekeeping operations and missions. The date, May 29, marks the anniversary of the creation of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization in 1948. The Day was first celebrated in 2003.
