Opposition rally in Abkhazia demands resignation of president, government

SUKHUM, May 27. /ITAR-TASS/. Several thousand supporters of the opposition have rallied in Abkhazia's capital Sukhum on Tuesday demanding the resignation of the president and the government. The rally gathered in close proximity to the presidential administration.
After a number of speeches, part of the protesters approached the building.
At present, President Alexander Ankvab is meeting with the opposition leaders including chairman of the People's Unity Forum Raul Khadzhimba and head of Aruaa, the organization of veterans of the Georgian-Abkhazian war, Vitaly Gabniya.
Police details are on hand to prevent possible riots.
