BEIRUT, May 27. /ITAR-TASS/. The Syrian Foreign Ministry confirmed that gunmen had attacked cars of six officials of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) mission, the Syrian Arab news agency Sana reported on Tuesday.

Five Syrians and six OPCW officials were abducted, Sana reported with the reference to the Syrian Foreign Ministry.

Earlier it was reported about the kidnapping of 11 OPCW officials. According to specified data from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, militants have abducted six OPCW employees and five accompanying individuals.

The OPCW mission has arrived in Damascus early in May to look into the reports about combat use of chlorine in several localities in Syria that emerged in April. The alleged incidents were discussed by the UN Security Council, the members of which urged OPCW to carry out an investigation. April 29, Secretary General of the OPCW Ahmet Üzümcü ordered to send a special mission to Syria to establish the facts.
