The Libyan High National Election Commission (HNEC) announced that the parliamentary elections would be held on June 25

MOSCOW, May 27. /ITAR-TASS/. The formation of Libya’s new parliament is aimed at easing the tension in the society, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

Moscow proceeds from the assumption that this step “is aimed at initiating an actual inter-Libyan dialogue and overcoming the existing differences between the local leading political forces within the legal framework.”

The RF Foreign Ministry confirmed “the consistent support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Libya” and called for “the earliest stabilization of the situation in the country, fulfillment of the Libyan people’s hopes for the creation of a modern democratic state.” “We are ready also in the future to promote this in the bilateral and multilateral formats,” the ministry said.

The Libyan High National Election Commission (HNEC) announced that the parliamentary elections would be held on June 25. “It was done against the background of unprecedented escalation of tension in the east and west of the country that was triggered by last week’s fierce armed clashes in Benghazi and Tripoli,” the RF Foreign Ministry said.

“Feeling certain that the general stabilization of the internal political situation in Libya is possible only on the basis of a wide nationwide accord, we view this decision of the High National Election Commission as a step that would further promote the political process in this country,” the ministry stressed.
