NEW YORK, May 27. /ITAR-TASS/. Nigerian military have managed to find out the location of schoolgirls kidnapped by militants in April, Associated Press reported.
In April, militants of the Boko Haram radical group, whose name is translated from the Hausa language as “Western education is a sin”, have kidnapped 276 schoolgirls in the Chibok locality in north-eastern Nigeria.
The news agency notes that the military are currently avoiding a combat raid to free the schoolgirls, because that might lead to their deaths. The location of the girls is not disclosed.
Boko Haram is making subversive acts in Nigeria for several years, choosing as targets not only military facilities, but civilians as well.
On the previous week, the United Nations Security Council included the Boko Haram group in the list of terrorist organizations linked to al-Qaeda, and imposed sanctions on it.
