CAIRO, May 26. /ITAR-TASS/. A powerful blast has hit one of the polling stations on the first day of presidential elections in Egypt.

Local TV reports that a self-made explosive device went off in the city of El-Mahalla El-Kubra (80 km from Cairo, Gharbia Governorate).  No casualties or injured have been reported so far.

May 26-27, the Egyptians will be choosing their new president. Thousands of servicemen and police officers will be ensuring security these days.

People stood in line before the polling stations even before they opened. Meanwhile, the banned Muslim Brotherhood alliance urged its supporters to boycott the elections and try not to go out these days.

There are only two names in the ballots — ex-defense minister Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, a professional soldier and representative of the army, repulsed by the Egyptians after the 2011 revolution, and Naseri socialist Hamdeen Sabahi, who presents himself as a candidate from the civil revolutionists camp. He ran for presidency in 2011, but lost then.
