KIEV, May 23. /ITAR-TASS/. Kiev must do everything possible to end senseless sacrifice, the leader of the Ukrainian Choice public movement said on Friday.

“There are not, and cannot be, winners in the struggle in the east of Ukraine,” Viktor Medvedchuk said. “There won’t be any winners as peace and concord are impossible to be brought at the point of bayonets. There won’t be any (winners) because people fail to grasp what the fight is going on for. And without answer to this question, no way out from the current crisis can be found .”

To maintain the country’s integrity, it is necessary to stop bloodshed, to reach a cease-fire agreement and to sit at the negotiating table, Medvedchuk said.

“Day after day the confrontation is claiming the lives of Ukrainians from both sides,” he said. “The government must do everything possible to put an end to senseless deaths of Ukrainians.”

“Our country vitally needs a truce between the warring sides as a first step in settlement of the conflict,” Medvedchuk said.
