BANGKOK, May 23. /ITAR-TASS/. A curfew in Thailand, Southeast Asia, did not hamper Russian tourists to fly timely to Russia by nighttime flights on Friday, director for sales of Sayama Travel company Valentina Malaya told ITAR-TASS.

“Overnight to Friday, we have been sending tourists home and have been receiving those who arrived. There were no problems. We even did not meet servicemen on the road, no one stopped the tourists,” she said.

She also noted that it was unusually quiet and few people were seen in the tourist area overnight to Friday. “In Pattaya, we have not seen a single soldier yet. But all entertainment facilities have already closed at 10pm and streets became empty on yesterday’s evening,” Malaya said. She added that many tour operators in Thailand continue working in routine mode. “Today we even planned an excursion in Bangkok. It is still unclear whether such excursions will be arranged in the future. We are following closely the situation,” Malaya said.

The curfew was introduced in Thailand on May 22 on the whole territory of the country from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. local time. However, the curfew does not apply to people who go abroad or arrived from other countries. The Command for maintaining peace and order has made an announcement to this effect. Travellers should have specific travelling documents, the announcement reads. According to a statement of military forces, the curfew also does not embrace those who should work in the nighttime. These people should receive special permits for movement in the nighttime. “If you should go to an airport during the curfew by a personal car, prepare a ticket and a passport for a check of authorities. If you use public transport, let’s try to come to the airport in advance,” Airports of Thailand company said in a statement.

In Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, public transport stopped running after 9pm local time (3 p.m. BST) on Thursday evening. Major trading centers closed an hour before this.

Roads in the Thai capital were extremely overloaded in the evening. City residents hurried to come home before the curfew starts.
