MOSCOW, May 21. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia has expressed its concern over the hard humanitarian situation in Serbia hit by unprecedented floods, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday.

“Many populated localities have been inundated and about 25,000 people, including almost the entire populations of the city of Obrenovac and other settlements, have been evacuated to safety from the flood-stricken areas. Human casualties have been reported,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.

Russia’s Emergencies Ministry has sent a rescue team to Serbia at the Serbian government’s official request. Russia has airlifted over 100 tonnes of relief cargo to the Balkan nation. The Russian-Serbian humanitarian center based in the city of Nis, in the country’s south, is playing a vital role in the rescue efforts.

In view of the fact that a large number of Russians have wished to help the Serbian people with what they can, the Russian Foreign Ministry informs that the Serbian Embassy in Moscow located at 46, Mosfilmovskaya Street is coordinating efforts to raise funds and receive relief aid from individuals and organizations, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.
