ANKARA, May 14. /ITAR-TASS/. An explosion at a coal mine in Turkey has left at least 201 dead and many others injured, Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said on Wednesday.
More than 360 workers have been evacuated from the mine, while 200 more people still remain underground. Rescuers and several military units are working on the site of the accident.
The explosion at a coal mine in the Manisa province happened on Tuesday, May 13. The blast was supposedly caused by electrical fault. The fire broke out in the mine after the explosion, and the power was cut underground.
Since 1941, more than 3,000 people have died in Turkey in mine incidents. The worst mining disaster happened in 1992, when 270 were killed in the Zonguldak province.
