PRETORIA, May 12. /ITAR-TASS/. The Nigerian authorities rule out the possibility of exchanging arrested militants from the Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram for more than 200 of 223 kidnapped schoolgirls, L'Agence France Press (AFP) reports on Monday.

Earlier, Boko Haram (translated from the Hausa language as ‘Western education is a sin’) said in a video address it would free more than 200 schoolgirls in exchange for the release of arrested militants.

Boko Haram and other insurgents cannot dictate terms, and the exchange of one person for another is out of the question, the news agency quoted the Nigerian Interior Ministry as saying. The video recording passed to media outlets on Monday said all the girls had adopted Islam.

On April 14, militants abducted 276 girls from a secondary school in the Chibok locality, northeast Nigeria. Police said 53 teenagers escaped while 223 remained in the militants' hands.

“Western education must stop. Girls must leave school, get married,” said the group, explaining the abduction.
