PRETORIA, May 08. /ITAR-TASS/. First results of the May 7 parliamentary elections in the Republic of South Africa showed that the ruling African National Congress has almost double lead over the opposition Democratic Alliance.

The National Electoral Commission stated on Thursday that more than one million voters supported the African National Congress. As many as 632,234 votes were cast for the Democratic Alliance.

The leftist radical party Economic Freedom Fighters created just in the previous year came third with 73.723 votes.

The Inkatha Freedom Party (39,046 votes), the National Freedom Party (26,608 votes), the Freedom Front Plus (26,271 votes), the Congress of the People (14,510 votes), the African Christian Democratic Party (13,271 votes) and the African Independent Congress (11,244 votes) are following the leading trio.

Other parties polled less than five thousand votes. Twenty-nine political parties ran in national parliamentary and provincial elections. More than 25 million voters are registered in the country.
