BERLIN, May 7. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian presidential nominee Petro Poroshenko said that he was ready to discuss the option of holding a referendum in the country in case he wins the elections, but only after “law and order are restored”. He made this statement to journalists during his visit to Berlin.

“We are even ready to hold a referendum, but not at the point of guns,” Poroshenko said. “After the presidential elections, after law and order are restored, we are ready to discuss any kind of referendum, we do not fear it, as well as constitutional reforms, which I am ready to discuss with anyone,” he added.

Meanwhile, Poroshenko noted that, in his view, “there is no legal basis” for holding a referendum on the status of self-proclaimed People’s Donetsk Republic on the east of Ukraine on May 11.

In Berlin, Petro Poroshenko plans to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier. At their talks, the politicians will focus on the situation in Ukraine and ways of settling the conflict in the country.
