BANGKOK, May 7. /ITAR-TASS/. The Constitutional Court of Thailand has dismissed acting Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and several members of her Cabinet. According to the ruling of the judicial board, one of the personnel solutions of the government’s head has been recognized as non-constitutional.

Trade Minister and ex-Deputy Prime Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan has been appointed as the new head of the Cabinet.

A group of oppositionist senators filed a petition with the court saying that Shinawatra’s actions contradict the basic law of Thailand. The suit refers to the dismissal of ex-head of Thailand’s National Security Council Thawil Pliensri upon Shinawatra’s order in 2011. In March 2013, the ex-head of the Security Council successfully challenged his dismissal in the Higher Administrative Court. To date, he has been accepted for the same post again.

The senators, who filed the lawsuit, insist that “the prime minister was not entitled to make a decision about the dismissal, since she acted in own selector”. According to their claim, Pliensri’s dismissal was initiated in favor of the ruling Pheu Thai party.

The Court rejected claims of Shinawatra’s defense saying that she couldn’t be dismissed because she was acting head of the government since December 2, 2013. The court ruling says that the personnel decision of the acting prime minister was made amid violations and in haste.

The court also ruled that ministers, who were involved in making the non-constitutional decision, would also have to be dismissed. Thus, the court did not rule to dissolve the whole Cabinet.

Major Thai TV outlets were broadcasting live from the courtroom. Shinawatra was absent when the court announced its ruling. Her secretariat said that the acting prime minister was watching a video broadcasting of the hearing in her office.
