KIEV, May 05. /ITAR-TASS/. Investigative agencies in the Ukrainian Black Sea port city of Odessa have convoyed 42 oppositionists to current Kiev authorities to a detention centre in a central Ukrainian region after a protest action in the city on May 2, the public relations department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said on Monday.

For the past night 42 detainees “were convoyed to a detention centre in a central Ukrainian region on suspicions of masterminding and staging massive disorders in the city of Odessa on May 2,” the ministry’s press service quoted parliament-appointed Interior Minister Arsen Avakov as saying.

On Sunday, 67 demonstrators detained by Odessa police for participation in a protest action on May 2 were released from custody on demands from protesters.

Riots broke out in the city of Odessa in the afternoon on May 2 after a massive brawl in Grecheskaya Street. Its instigators were football fans coming from the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkov, Right Sector radicals and representatives of the so-called Maidan self-defense from Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, who staged a march in Odessa streets. They have stirred up clashes with federalization supporters, setting on fire the regional House of Trade Unions and a tent camp where a signup campaign was under way for a referendum on Ukrainian federalization and granting the state language status to the Russian language. According to latest reports, 46 were killed and more than 200 sought medical aid after the Odessa massacre.
