Special battalion staffed with volunteers comes to Ukraine’s Odessa — Interior Ministry

KIEV, May 05. /ITAR-TASS/. The Ukrainian Interior Ministry has dispatched additional special forces to Ukrainian Black Sea port city of Odessa. A special unit of Kiev’s National Guard has already arrived to the city, the ministry’s press service said.
The press service cited parliament-appointed interim Interior Minister Arsen Avakov as saying that Odessa volunteers allegedly headed the special force.
This is a special force Kiev-1 formed in the Ukrainian capital of volunteers in late April to patrol the city. It was reported then that this special unit can be distinguished for their black uniform and they are armed.
Riots in Odessa
On May 2, in Odessa’s downtown clashes between football fans that came from Kharkiv, Right Sector activists, representatives of the so-called Maidan self-defense and federalization supporters took place. The regional House of trade unions and a tent camp, where signatures were collected in favor of a referendum on Ukraine’s federalization and making Russian an official state language, were set on fire. As a result of the tragic events, 46 people died and over 200 people sought medical aid because of received injuries.
