Eliezer Otaiza used to serve in Hugo Chavez's personal guard

CARACAS, April 29. /ITAR-TASS/. The ex-chief of Venezuela’s national security service Eliezer Otaiza has been killed. As the country’s Minister of Interior Affairs Miguel Rodriguez reported on Monday, the body with fur gunshot wounds was found in one of Caracas districts. Recently, Eliezer Otaiza was heading one of the municipalities of the Venezuelan capital.

According to the Interior Ministry, Otaiza’s body was found in the Araguata neighborhood on Saturday. However, the victim did not carry any documents, and it took time to identify him. Later on the same day, the police found Otaiza’s car with a bullet hole.

The circumstances of murder of the national intelligence service ex-chief are being established. The Minister of the Interior refrained from announcing any versions.

Eliezer Otaiza graduated from a military college in Caracas. In February 1992, he took part in a coup attempt led by lieutenant colonel Hugo Chavez. After Chavez came to power, Otaiza was serving in his personal guard. After that, he was member of the National Assembly (Venezuelan parliament), headed the national intelligence service, was chair of the agency carrying out the agricultural reform, as well as chairman of the national employment agency.
