NATO’s activities in Ukraine’s crisis are wrong - deputy chair of Germany’s party
“The very high support (by Russians of the policy of President Vladimir) Putin should make us think twice,” deputy chair of Germany’s Free Democratic Party Wolfgang Kubicki adds
BERLIN, April 18. /ITAR-TASS/. NATO’s activities in the Ukrainian crisis are wrong, deputy chair of Germany’s Free Democratic Party Wolfgang Kubicki said on Friday.
“I consider as most counterproductive that NATO has been concentrating its forces to the so-called eastern border and the involvement of Bundeswehr in it,” he said in an interview with the DPA news agency. “It is also very dangerous.”
He said it would be most important to develop a dialogue with Russia, and to expand the participants in negotiations between Europe and Moscow.
“The very high support (by Russians of the policy of President Vladimir) Putin should make us think twice,” Kubicki said.
“Talking to each other cannot mean firing at each other, but rather understanding of each other,” he added.
On April 17, NATO’s press service reported the alliance was sending to the Baltic Sea five warships to support its east European allies. The source said the group included warships from Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium and Estonia.
Earlier, the NATO Council meeting in Brussels approved a package of measures to strengthen the security of the alliance’s Eastern European member-states due to the crisis in Ukraine. Following the meeting, NATO’s Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the alliance would have more planes in the air, more ships in the waters and land forces will be ready.
