Ukraine’s presidential contender Poroshenko promises to diversify energy supplies

KIEV, April 11. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian oligarch Petro Poroshenko, who is running for Ukrainian president in snap presidential polls scheduled for May 25, has promised to diversify energy supplies within two to three years.

“This problem cannot be resolved overnight,” local media quote him as saying at a canvassing meeting with residents of the town of Malin, Zhitomir region, on Friday. “To do that, we will have to build a terminal, to lay a gas pipeline and to ensure reverse gas supplies. It will take from thirty to thirty-six months.

After that, he said, Ukraine will be able to buy gas from Poland, Slovakia and the United States. He also said that a day before he had met with Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak to discuss reverse gas supplies.
