Cable TV operators told to resume blocked Russian broadcasts
DONETSK, April 10. /ITAR-TASS/. City councillors in Ukraine's Donetsk say television cable operators should resume Russian television broadcasts while a court investigates protests over them being taken off the air, council spokesman Sergei Bogachev said on Thursday.
"Numerous complaints have been lodged by Donetsk residents against blocking Russian TV broadcasts on cable television," he said.
Councillors on Wednesday said cable operators should comply with the law and attend hearings in the capital, Kiev, Bogachev said.
Until any court ruling was announced, applying directly to Donetsk operators, suppliers should relay programs from Russia, Bogachev said of the council decision.
On March 25, a Kiev district court ruled to suspend broadcasts by four Russian television channels to Ukraine pending an investigation into a lawsuit filed by Ukraine's National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council. The court resolution was directed at Russian TV channels RTR-Planeta, Rossiya 24, First Channel and NTV Mir.
