Lavrov tells Kerry four-party meeting on Ukraine should foster dialogue
“Undoubtedly, a key role in solving this priority task must be played by the present Kiev authorities,” the ministry says
MOSCOW, April 09. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told US Secretary of State John Kerry by telephone on Wednesday, April 9, that the four-party meeting on Ukraine should help foster equal dialogue in Ukraine.
The Russian minister and the US secretary discussed “international assistance to the resolution of the acute political crisis in Ukraine, including a multilateral meeting between Russia, the US, the European Union and Ukrainian representatives,” the Foreign Ministry said after Kerry’s call to Lavrov.
Lavrov noted that this format could be useful if it seeks not discuss different aspects of bilateral relations but to help foster a broad and equal dialogue in Ukraine in order to work out an unacceptable constitutional reform plan.
“Undoubtedly, a key role in solving this priority task must be played by the present Kiev authorities who must after all respond to the legitimate demands of the south-eastern regions of the country,” the ministry said.
Kerry assured Lavrov that Washington had investigated reports about the deployment of personnel of the American private security firm Greystone in the southeast of Ukraine and found no confirmation for them.
