US towed pinger locators to be used in underwater search for MH370 black box

The search operation for MH370 black box will cover the distance of 240 kilometers
SYDNEY, April 04. /ITAR-TASS/. The international forces are using US underwater equipment in their search for missing Malaysia Airlines Boeing MH370, head of the Joint Agency Coordination Center Angus Houston said. A towed pinger locator, deployed on Australia’s defense vessel Ocean Shield, is capable of determining the location of the black box.
Houston said the locator has already been used in searches for black boxes. The search operation for MH370 black box will cover the distance of 240 kilometers.
Boeing 777-200 (flight MH370) was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 227 passengers and 12 crewmembers on board on March 7. Contact with it was lost about two hours after its departure from the Malaysian capital.
