Latvia’s electronic media council imposes ban on re-broadcasting of Russia RTR TV channel
The ban will come in force after this decision is published in the official newspaper Latvijas Vestnesis
RIGA, April 03, /ITAR-TASS/. Latvia’s National Electronic Media Council, which control the activity of television and radio re-broadcasters, on Thursday imposed a three-month ban on re-broadcasting of Russia’s RTR television channel.
Having analyzed Russia RTR programmes aired in the period from March 2 to March 17, the council found that the channel’s programmes had information that violated a number of provisions of the Latvian electronic media laws, the press service of the council reported.
The ban will come in force after this decision is published in the official newspaper Latvijas Vestnesis.
Apart from that, the National Electronic Media Council of Latvia initiated an administrative case against the Russian-language First Baltic Channel, claiming it had been disseminating biased, misleading and hostile information, which could be interpreted as a deliberate aggression in Latvia’s information space.
Programmes and films of Russia RTR account for up to 70 percent of the First Baltic Channel’s entire air time.
