State Duma formulates measures to preserve Ukrainian integrity

MOSCOW, April 01. /ITAR-TASS/. Head of the Education Committee at the State Duma lower house of Russia’s parliament Vyacheslav Nikonov on Tuesday formulated at the house plenary meeting measures that will make it possible, in his view, to preserve Ukraine’s integrity.
“What could be a plan that would make it possible to preserve Ukraine’s integrity? First, it is necessary to carry out the constitutional reform, setting forth in the new Constitution three things,” the politician said. In particular, Ukraine’s fundamental document should provide for federalism, the possibility for citizens of every region to elect their own authorities, the status of Russian as a state language, “since it is native for almost half of the population, the non-aligned status of Ukraine, the adoption of the Constitution in a referendum,” he said.
“And the presidential and parliamentary elections should be held based on the new Constitution,” Nikonov continued. “Also, not only so-called representatives of the ‘new power’ should be given the opportunity to conduct election campaigning, and not only representatives of the Right Sector should control the election process.” “It is necessary to disarm all the extremists, release all political prisoners. It is necessary to resume the operation of facilities for receiving Russian TV channels, and the West should lift its shameful sanctions,” the lawmaker said.
