West seeks to normalise relations with Russia - German Foreign Ministry

“Now further steps should be taken to de-escalate the situation,” Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier says

BERLIN, March 26. /ITAR-TASS/. Germany’s top diplomat has warned of Europe being split due to the tense situation in Ukraine.

“We should resume normal relations,” Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in an interview with the Bild newspaper on Wednesday.

“Now it is Moscow’s turn,” he argues, adding that Russia's approval of the decision to send a mission of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe to Ukraine’s east should entail other moves.

“Now further steps should be taken to de-escalate the situation,” Steinmeier said.

However, he claims that until Russia has changed its policy towards Ukraine it would be impossible to return to the previous agenda.
